Michael Clarkson
For Colorado House District 45
Thanks for stopping by. I’m Michael Clarkson. I’m a veteran, cloud solutions architect, and a proud Democrat ready to roll up my sleeves and fight for our community in the statehouse.
My Why
Our district is at a crossroads. Rising costs, a shaky housing market, and an education system that needs fresh investment are keeping families up at night. I’ve seen these challenges first‑hand—whether it’s helping a neighbor keep their home, watching kids navigate crowded classrooms, or running a business that feels the squeeze of outdated regulations. It’s time for a representative who understands what everyday Coloradans face and who will champion practical, people‑first solutions.
My Priorities
Affordable Housing - Push for smart zoning reforms, expand low‑income housing incentives, and protect renters from unfair evictions.
Quality Education - Secure stable funding for K‑12 schools, lower class sizes, and bring modern technology into every classroom.
Economic Growth - Cut red tape for small businesses, promote clean‑energy jobs, and ensure fair wages for all workers.
Healthcare Access - Expand Medicaid, protect reproductive rights, and work toward affordable prescription drugs.
Public Safety & Climate Resilience - Invest in community policing, emergency preparedness, and climate‑smart infrastructure.
My Story
Veteran: I served in the Army for a short stint, leaving on a medical discharge after a severe knee injury. I still hold the oath I took to protect and defend the Constitution sacred.
Cloud Solutions Architect: I’ve spent most of my adult life in tech, consulting across multiple industries. This makes me uniquely qualified to write legislation about tech required to write productive legislation around AI, crypto, social media, and other technical.
Student of History: I firmly believe the dictum “Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” Understanding historical contexts are the key to understanding where we came from, how we got here, and how we can move forward.
Community activist: I work with local organizations supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, the local Democratic Party, and organizations which invest in the arts. Our community has given me so much and it brings me joy to give back.
I credit much of the man I am today to my grandfather and hero, Jerome J. Clarkson. He was WWII vet who took a bullet saving his platoon from machine gun fire. He could have rested on his status as a war hero, but he was just getting started. He marched with the Civil Rights movement, donated most of his wealth to charity, and showed an example of kindness I strive to live up to. His wife suffered severe brain damage in 1952 and doctors told him to divorce her and put her in a long-term care facility. He instead cared for her the rest of their lives. His last act on Earth was making his wife dinner.
